How to Adjust Your Glasses at Home: The Essentials

Sometimes your glasses don’t fit quite right—maybe they’re sliding down your nose or feeling too tight on the sides. While some adjustments can be made at home, we recommend being gentle and cautious to avoid damaging your frames. Here are a few simple tips to get your glasses feeling more comfortable again.

1. Glasses Sliding Down Your Nose?

If your glasses keep slipping, there are small adjustments you can make, depending on whether you have plastic or metal frames:

  • Gently bend the temple arms downwards where they curve behind your ears. This can help them sit more securely. Be very careful with the pressure you apply to avoid breaking the frames.

2. Are the Arms of Your Glasses Too Tight?

If the arms of your glasses feel too tight, they may need to be adjusted. However, these adjustments can only be made on metal frames.

  • Metal Frames: For metal frames, you'll need a cross-head (Phillips) screwdriver. Place the glasses upside down on a flat surface, and locate the screw on the inside of the arm near the lens. Gently loosen the screw while holding the arm steady. Once loosened, adjust the arm to your desired fit. Be careful not to loosen the screw too much, as you don’t want it to fall out. Also, keep in mind that the screw on your glasses may differ from the example provided.

Tips for Success

  • Use Both Hands: Always put your glasses on and take them off with both hands. This keeps the frame balanced and prevents unnecessary bending.
  • Avoid Overdoing It: Small, incremental adjustments are key. Over-bending can cause more harm than good, especially with plastic frames.
